The Pinned tab on our cleanish install included Spotify, Netflix, Instagram and Photoshop Express, which were neither consciously chosen nor even installed. A recommended section occupies about half the initial Start window and cannot be removed. As you might know, when Windows 10 was released, it was a free upgrade for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users. The free upgrade offer was initially for a year, but users are reporting that the free upgrade offer is unofficially available even today. For those of you who want to upgrade to Windows 11 now and have not received an official notification from Microsoft, do not be lured into a fake version.
- The introduction of dark mode in Notepad is going to please many developers and dark theme users out there too.
- I’ve been covering the world of technology since 2018, but I’ve loved the field for a lot longer.
- I wish the tray icon could be used to start capture.

He spent more than seven years running PC World’s award-winning Here’s How section, beginning in 2000. O’Reilly has written about everything from web search to PC security to Microsoft Excel customizations. After the registry defrag is done, you will speed up your computer and improve its performance.
Does Windows 10 Have A Defrag Program?
You’ll then be presented with several options for selecting the exact portion of the page you want to capture; these include Rectangular Snip, Freeform Snip, Windows Snip, and Fullscreen Snip. But first, a short lesson in Microsoft’s dizzying app names. The app set to be pre-installed in Windows 11 is called Snipping Tool, which may confuse some users who have been using the “Snip & Sketch” app in Windows 10. Microsoft is going back to the original name for its screenshot tool after abandoning the old Snipping Tool in favor of Snip & Sketch in 2018. Now both of those Windows 10 tools will be replaced by a new Snipping Tool (Goodbye, Snip & Sketch!).
This might change later on as Microsoft introduces new features into Windows 11 and brings the Android app store online. For right now, Windows 11 feels like Windows 10 with a new interface. Capture and publish images in no time
If you are running Windows 10, it is free to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11. If you want to use this new Windows version, your device should meet the minimum hardware and system requirements for Windows 11. Improved Included Apps
I’d love to see filter options become available in the future. For example, I’d love to be able to set how long certain file types actually show up in the Recommended area as a recent file, or filter out certain file types altogether. I rarely, if read more ever, use Excel, so if I’m opening an Excel spreadsheet, I already know I’m probably not going to need to access it again. Being able to hide Excel file types from the Recommended feed, in this case, would be good, too. I’ve been using Windows 11 since it first went into preview back in June on all my PCs. I’ve loved my time with it, and I think it’s the start of a great new era for the OS.
